Kaede

Charlet

On the 10th I'll be ordering some lights so I'll be able to play even more! Yeah! I was planning on learning how to work the lights and testing them with my digital P&S so that I'm not wasting a lot of film. I didn't think of not being able to sync with it so now I think I'm going to have to just use the slaves as practice and throw the monolight in later.
I really struggle with catchlights in natural lighting so it will be nice to have more control.
Also, we are hopefully (after a rough estimate) getting more back on our taxes than we were planning on so I'll have some $ that I can put towards the rest of my stuff.

She's evicted! Yeah!
So, what is appropriate take around gifts for a congratulations on our neighbor being evicted?

I really didn't want to go today (I had to miss last week for a stomach bug) but I am glad I did. I don't feel I 'fit' the dynamics of the class well, but I don't care. I go and do what I can even if I don't have this perfect tiny dancers body that can fold all over in all kinds of directions.
The stuff we do for the abs, OH MY! I think I need to work on that.
Not to mention the
ardha chandrasana that we had to do. We started out with a wall and a partner, then just a partner, then all on our own. Yipes!
Honestly, it wasn't too bad though. The sun salutations today weren't as bad (I don't think we are holding them as long either because she doesn't have to adjust us all anymore) I went into the studio with a rotten attitude (home stuff too) and left very glad that I went.

What on earth was I thinking by taking statistics online?!?!?
Could someone explain how to find the quartiles? Or why whiskers on a boxplot uses 1.5 IQR's? Or standard deviations?
I'm going to be busy going crazy for now.
Hey, only 12 weeks left.

It came!

I can't believe I didn't come blog this! It just goes to show how tired/busy I have been lately.
I got my letter from the Nursing program, saying I have been accepted to the BSN program for Fall 2006. Woohoo!
*giggles*
I get to be a nurse!
Stupid USPS!
Posted by: Heather at 12:47AM EST on January 16, 2006
The 13th (Friday) was the date that the nursing department would have acceptance/rejection/wait listed letters out by. I was prepared to be a nerveous wreck until Wednesday when I was going to start stalking our mailman.
Well, turns out a friend of mine got hers yesterday!
HMPH.
I'm guessing they must have gotten them in the mail early, and due to the nature of things I just haven't gotten anything yet (and nothing is better than a rejection letter)
Doesn't the USPS know that they shouldn't do this to us?!? It's just cruel to give a letter to one applicant and not another when they are good friends! {in my best whiny 5 yo voice} IT'S NOT FAIR!!!!
Guess what else?
Tomorrow is (of course) Martin Luther King Day so the mail isn't being delivered. HMPH

It is recommended for us to come home from class and journal about our experiences each week. So, here it goes.
She lies!
I first met Annie at a Home Enrichment night when she came and did a short yoga presentation. We did about a 30 minute routine and then she said something along the lines of....
All of you are starting ahead of where many of my students in the beginning class start. This is a class that is open to the community or you are able to take it for credit if you wish. All of you here would do wonderfully in the class.
Lies! They're all lies!
Ok, maybe that's a bit much. It's not so much that the routine was harder, we just held a lot of the positions for longer. Not to mention I'm about as flexible as a piece of rebar. Apparently that makes it easier on me in the beginning?!?!?!?
That said, I did enjoy it. I think that given a little more time I will enjoy it.
Which brings me to my next question. Is it wrong to stop on the way home and buy a cookie?

Would it kill him to just...
Posted by: Heather at 11:20PM EST on January 6, 2006
...say congratulations, thanks, good job, or wow that looks nice?
Apparently so.
I spent several hours today searching, calling, emailing, and basically a bunch of busy work to get the cost of our books down from over $600 for both of us to barely over $400 (most of my classes don't have books this semester) Did I get a hey, thanks that's awesome? Or even a thanks? Nope. I guess I should feel lucky that I got an 'oh, how'd you do it?'
I waited all evening, patiently and not so patiently waiting for him to ask what was in the mail. "Oh, just some ads, a bill, a few flyers, the Review. (Great big huge smile here) Oh! And my award letter for a $1,000 scholarship!"
Guess what his reply was.
"Yeah, you get one only cause they think you are smart. I don't have one cause they think I'm stupid"
Gee, thanks for the warm fuzzy. *sigh*
I didn't even get acknowledged when I told him Kaede's peed in the potty several times today, and only once on the floor (she was in a diaper from going to go get Mike and during naptime but not other than that)
I was talking about someone who wants me to come do their pictures as soon as I get some lighting equipment and he was moping about me messing up his schedule (not true--I am not going to schedule during the weekday and his weekends are open) and if I dared schedule on a weekend he would NOT under any circumstances take the kids to the park.
Ummm, ok? It's been too cold for the park and I wasn't going to ask you to take them.
He has never made any kind of positive comment about any of my pictures. Ever.
Yeah, happy potty-scholarship day to me. Woo.

Sago Mine Tragedy
Posted by: Heather at 5:05PM EST on January 4, 2006
I've tried to start this several times today and haven't been able to put into words how I feel.
The horror of the intial events, the hope from the mining accident a few years ago, them finding the first body, and then going to bed with the news that the remaining 12 were alive. Then I woke this morning to my local radio station reporting only one alive. I thought they'd just gotten it wrong, after all this isn't the most accurate station.
Then Paul told me the truth--the intial report of the remaining miners being alive was a 'miscommunication'
To me miscommunication is when I ask Paul if he cares if we go to BK instead of McDonald's and he says 'whichever is fine' but then doesn't like my choice.
Miscommunication is not telling 12 families that their father, son, husband, brother is alive when they aren't.
I can not begin to imagine the rollercoaster of emotions.
My heart aches for the 12 families, and for the survivor and his family. Their ordeal is far from over.
How did I forget!

We are insured again! WOOHOO!
Cool! Friday the 13th!
Posted by: Heather at 6:25PM EST on January 2, 2006
So, I did ok for 2 hours today with *J* Right up until she clocked out. As she left she looked at the schedule and said "Cool! Friday the 13th! I always forget which month that it in!" and out she walked.
That wasn't so much an annoying thing as an "are you for real?" thing. I'm trying to be more patient, more understanding with *K* and *J* then when I get my lighting I'm quiting. It's just not worth it most of the time.
Yipee! -- Or maybe I am just more confused?!?

I've been debating on which kind of photography lights to buy. I *want*
these -- one of the 400 units and an 800 (for a keylight and a fill light) I also want a hotshoe flash like
this to use outdoors as a fill flash.
I found a thread where it describes how I can use the hotshoe flash for normal studio type lighting, just pulling it off of the camera, putting it on a transmitter and a pole and attatching a softbox or a softliter.
However, I'm still not sure what to do. By the time I bought the speedlite flash and the accessories to make it work I'd be out about $400 (which I don't have yet BTW) and the Bee's that I want are $480 (I don't know if I'd need any/many extra's to get the Bee's to work though) and I'd have 2.
I'm leaning towards the speedlite, just not fully convinced yet. *sigh*
